Why is yoga different than exercise?

During a physical yoga class, one try’s to coordinate the breath to movement. You do not have to go fast but you want to try to inhale when you move a certain way and exhale when you move another way. We try to have the breath guide our movements, which is why in the beginning, you may not feel like you have the full pose as your breath is shorter or more shallow. Example, when you bend over and try to touch the floor, exhale. Maybe you make it to the floor and maybe  you don’t, work with blended knees to get you closer to the floor and put a block or books on the floor to reach for. Then keep your knees bent and come up on your inhale. The main thing in yoga is to work with your breath.
